Frequently asked questions.
Straight answers about rooftop solar costs, subsidies, generation and service.
Cost & savings
How much does a rooftop solar system cost?
The cost depends on system size, panel and inverter technology, structure type and site conditions. Residential systems are usually priced per kW, and eligible homes can reduce the cost further with the PM Surya Ghar subsidy. Use our savings calculator for an indicative estimate, or request a free consultation for an exact quotation.
PM Surya Ghar & subsidy
What is PM Surya Ghar?
PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a Government of India scheme that supports households in installing rooftop solar through a central financial assistance (subsidy) credited directly to the applicant's bank account. See our PM Surya Ghar guide for eligibility and the process.
What subsidy is available?
For eligible residential consumers, the central subsidy is currently ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 per kW for the third kW, up to a maximum of ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above. Scheme rules can change — we confirm the applicable subsidy at the time of your application.
Technical
How many solar panels do I need?
It depends on your monthly electricity consumption, available shadow-free roof area and the wattage of the panels chosen. As a rough guide, 1 kW of panels needs about 60–80 sq. ft. of roof. We size every system from your actual electricity bills after a site survey.
How much electricity will my solar system generate?
In Gujarat, a well-installed system typically generates around 4 units per kW per day on average across the year — roughly 1,400–1,500 units per kW annually. Actual generation depends on orientation, tilt, shading, weather and maintenance.
How does net metering work?
A bi-directional (net) meter records both the electricity you draw from the grid and the surplus solar electricity you export. You are billed only for the net units consumed, and excess generation is adjusted as per your DISCOM's policy. We handle the net-metering application with your DISCOM.
What happens during a power cut?
A standard on-grid system shuts down automatically during a grid outage for the safety of line workers, so it will not power your home during a power cut. If you need backup, a hybrid system with batteries can keep essential loads running.
How long do solar panels last?
Quality solar modules are designed to last 25–30 years, with manufacturers typically guaranteeing a large share of their original output over that period. Inverters usually last 10–15 years.
Which inverter is suitable for my system?
The right inverter depends on system size, single- or three-phase supply, whether you need battery backup (hybrid) and your monitoring needs. We recommend the inverter model and capacity as part of your system design.
Can solar be installed on any rooftop?
Most RCC, metal-sheet and industrial roofs are suitable. What matters is shadow-free area, structural condition and orientation. Our site survey checks all of this before we propose a design.
What happens if my electricity consumption increases?
Systems can usually be expanded later, subject to roof space, inverter capacity and DISCOM approval for the higher sanctioned capacity. Tell us about expected increases (EV, AC, new floors) and we can plan the design for future expansion.
Installation & service
How long does solar installation take?
Physical installation of a typical home system takes 1–3 days. The complete process — survey, design, approvals, installation, DISCOM inspection and net-meter installation — usually takes a few weeks, depending mainly on DISCOM timelines.
What warranty do I get?
Warranties depend on the products selected. Modules typically carry a product warranty plus a long-term performance warranty, and inverters carry a manufacturer warranty. Your Grinew proposal lists every applicable warranty clearly, along with our workmanship support.
What maintenance does a solar system require?
Solar systems need very little maintenance: regular panel cleaning (dust reduces generation), periodic inspection of connections, structure and earthing, and monitoring of generation. Our O&M / AMC packages take care of this for you.
Does Grinew provide after-sales service?
Yes. We provide monitoring support, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and breakdown support, with optional AMC packages for long-term performance.
